5 I NTRODUCTION CAUTION: When using telephone equipment, there are basic safety instructions that should always be followed. Refer to the IMPOR TANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS provided with this product and save them for future reference.
6 T ELEPHONE J ACK R EQUIREMENTS T o use this phone, you need an RJ1 1C type modular telephone jack, whic h might look lik e the one pictured here, installed in your home. If you don’t have a modular jac k, call your local phone company to find out how to get one installed.
7 I NST ALLING THE P HONE D ESKTOP I NST ALLATION 1. Plug the coiled cord into the handset. Plug the other end into the jack on the side of the base. 2. Place the handset in the base. 3. Plug the telephone line cord into the LINE jack on the back of the phone.
8 1. Carefully turn the handset hook 180 ° with a coin or screwdriver until it points upward. Y ou need to do this so that the handset doesn’t fall out of the base. 2. Plug the coiled cord into the handset. Plug the other end into the jack on the side of the base.
9 NEXT (button) I MPORT ANT I NSTRUCTIONS FOR M OVING THE A NSWERER : T o move the answerer to a different location in the house, follow these instructions: 1. Disconnect the phone line. 2. Go to the electrical outlet and unplug the power supply . 3. Move the unit and phone line to the desired location.
10 S ETUP R ECORDING THE G REETING Before using your new answerer , you should record a greeting (the announcement callers hear when your answering system answers a call). If you don't record a greeting, callers hear a default greeting whic h says, " We ar e not available to take your call.
11 Remote Access Sets your 3-digit code used for remote access to the unit. TONE/PULSE Dialing Sets the phone for tone or pulse dialing. Regional Area Codes Sets your regional area codes if you have multiple area codes where you live.
12 2. When finished, press ENTER to confirm. Now you’re ready to enter the month. M ONTH 1. Use NEXT or REVIEW to set the month. 2. When finished, press ENTER to confirm. Now you’ re ready to enter the day . D AT E 1. Use NEXT or REVIEW to set the date.
13 S ETTING THE I NCOMING M ESSAGE L ENGTH This setting allows you to set the maximum length of time allowed for a single incoming message. Y ou can c hoose from 1 -4 minutes.
14 2. Use NEXT or REVIEW to select the first digit. 3. Once the first digit is set, press ENTER. The unit beeps to confirm. 4. Repeat steps 2-3 until all the digits of the security code are set. NOTE: T o skip to the next setting, press MENU. T o exit setup, press EXIT .

16 • Listen to the incoming message (Call screening). • Pick up the phone during the incoming message, if desired. • Disconnect the caller by pressing the STOP button. A UTODISCONNECT Autodisconnect is a feature that tells the unit to stop playing the greeting or recording when a extension phone is picked up.
17 E RASE M ESSAGES S INGLE M ESSAGES Y ou can erase a message itself, leaving the Caller ID information. • While the message is playing, press and release DELETE.
18 2. After you hear the beep that follows the greeting, enter your 3-digit security code. The unit confirms your code with a beep. T o bypass the greeting, you can enter your 3-digit security code any time while the greeting is playing. The unit waits for a remote command for 20 seconds after the correct security code has been entered.
19 S UMMARY S CREEN The summary screen shows the current time, current date and number of new calls to be reviewed. It is displayed until any button is pressed. Within 10 seconds of receiving a new call, the summary screen is displayed. It is similar to the Message playing screen except there is no icon on the display .
20 Y ou can also erase all Caller ID records, leaving any associated message. • Press REVIEW when reviewing the first Caller ID record; the unit displays ST ART OF LIS T . Then press DELETE, and the unit displays ERASE ALL CALLS? Press DELETE again to erase all Caller ID records.
21 NOTE: T o cancel Dial Back, press PLAY/STOP or wait for the unit to return to the ready-to-answer mode. M ESSAGE I NDICA TORS The following special messages indicate the status of a message or the unit: 00 CALLS The call record log is empty .
22 • Stay reasonably close to the phone so that you can be clearly heard by the person to whom you are talking. • Y ou can adjust the speaker volume by pressing the VOLUME ^ and v but tons. • The speakerphone indicator comes on when the speakerphone is in use.
23 R EDIAL Redial the last number you called by pressing the REDIAL but ton after you get a dial tone. NOTE: The Redial feature holds in memory the last phone number you dialed (as many as 63 digits). If you pressed any numbers after dialing the phone number , (for example, when accessing a voice-menu system) those numbers also are redialed.
24 5. When finished, press ST ORE. MEMOR Y L OCA TION is displayed. 6. Press the memory location number (0-9 or A, B, C) to store the number . Example: T o store 1 123 555 121 1 Al Smith, you would do the following: 1 . P ress 1; press NEXT ; press 1; press 2; etc.
25 3. Press the memory location number (0-9). The number dials automatically . Alternatively , you can preview the number before dialing (when the handset is on-hook). Press the DIAL button and then select the desired memory location (0-9). The number will be shown on the display , press DIAL again to make the connection in speakerphone mode.

18 2. Después de que usted escucha el bip que sigue al saludo, inscriba su código de seguridad de 3 dígitos. El aparato confirma su código con un bip. P ara saltarse el saludo, usted puede inscribir su código de seguridad en cualquier momento mientras el saludo se está reproduciendo.
19 P ANT ALLA S UMARIO La pantalla sumario le muestra la hora actual, fecha actual y el número de llamadas nuevas a ser revisadas. Esto se muestra hasta que se oprima cualquier botón. Dentro de los siguientes 1 0 segundos después de recibir una llamada, la pantalla sumario se muestra.
