EN - 6 SAFETY RULES This cutting machine is c apable of amputating hands and feet and throwing objects. Failure to observe the following safety i nstructions could result in serious injury or death. The following safety inst ructions are ba sed on the B71.
EN - 7 Never carry children , even with the blade(s) shut off. They may fall off and be seriously injured or interfere with safe machine operation. Children who have been given rides in the past may suddenly appear in the mowing area for another ride and be run over or backed over by the machine.
EN - 8 Always keep hands and feet away from all pinch points. Avoid slippery surf aces. Be s ure of your footing while using pedes trian controlled equipment, especially when backing up. Walk, don’t run. Use extreme caut ion if operating on wet grass, reduced footing could cause slipping.
EN - 9 Watch for holes, ruts, bumps, rocks, o r other hidden objects. Uneven terrain could overturn the machine. T all grass can hide obstacles. Do not m ow on m oist or wet grass.
EN - 1 0 DO NOT OVERFI LL! This equipment and/or its engine may include evaporative emissions con trol system components, required to meet EP A and/or C ARB regulations, that will only function properly when the fuel tank has been filled to t he recommended level.

EN - 1 4 CONTROLS AND FEATURES See Figure 4 for Controls and Features locations. Safety Interlock Syste m Perform the f ollowing tests to ensure the safety interlock system is working properly . If the unit does not perform as stat ed, contact your Gravely dealer for repairs.
EN - 1 5 NOTICE: Aggressive turning can scuff or damage lawns. A L W A YS keep both wheels rotating when making sharp turns. DO NOT make turns with inside wheel completely stopped. T o obtain minimum turning radius, slowly reverse inside wheel while moving outside wheel slowly f orward.
EN - 1 6 T o disable this feature: 1. Move transport lock knob up to the Of f position. Height of Cut (HOC) See Figure 6. 1. Push down on mower lift pedal, or pull back on lift lever , to release dec k pressure from HOC index wheel. 2. If locked, move transport lock lever to unlocked position.
EN - 1 7 The hour meter has three functions: 1. Time r (TM R1) Measures the time spent on individual jobs. Press and hold the toggle button to reset the timer to zero. TMR1 will then start measuring engine run time until it is reset to z ero again. 2.

EN - 1 9 STOPPING IN AN EME RGENCY 1. Return steering levers to neutral posit ion. 2. Immediately set parking brake. 3. T ur n off PTO and engine. T O MOW WITH U NIT Operate the unit only when standing in the operator ’s position. 1. S tart the engine.
EN - 2 0 T o rotate platform down: 1. S top unit, disengage PTO and wait f or all moving parts to stop. 2. Engage parking brake. 3. Release platform latch. 4. Rotate platf orm down into standing position. FOR BEST PERFORMANCE • Cut grass when it is dry .
EN - 2 1 Proper maintenance can prolong the life of unit. The following charts show t he recommended serv ice schedule. More frequent service may be required due to extreme working conditions (heavy loads, high ambient temperatures, dusty conditions, or airborne debris) .

EN - 2 4 HYDRAULIC FLUID Check Hydraulic Fluid Level See Figure 1 1. Check the system with the unit cold and parked on a flat, level surface. Then run the unit for about one minute and recheck the levels. Add Hydraulic Fl uid 1. Remove the cap from t he expansion tank.
EN - 2 5 8. Repeat steps 1 – 7 for the other transaxle. See Add Hydraulic Fluid on page 24. Purging t he Hydrauli c System 1. With the unit up to and fa cing a wall, jack up the unit so that both drive wheels are off the ground. 2. Disengage the parking brake and put the transaxle bypass levers in the neutral position.
EN - 2 6 Sharpen the Mower Blade s See Figure 15. 1. Remove mower blade from unit. Discard mower blade if: • More than 1/2” (1.3 cm) of me tal is remo ved. • Air l ifts become eroded. • Blade is bent or broken. 2. Sharpen mower blade by removing an equal amount of material from each end of mower blade.
EN - 2 7 4. Make sure the wings are facing up and Install mower blade(s) on unit. 5. T orque bolts to 1 15 – 160 lbf-ft (156 – 217 N•m). FUSE BLOCK The fuse/relay panel is lo cated behind the rear access panel, below the control panel. BATTERY Cleaning the terminals is the only regular battery maintenance required.

AL WA YS follow i nformation provided on battery by battery manufacturer . Contact battery manufac turer for extens ive instructions to c harge battery .
EN - 2 9 5. Loosen the jam nut at t he top and bottom of the tie rod and then turn the tie rod until the steering levers align. Adjust both lef t and right sides as needed. 6. Once levers are aligned, tighten jam nuts and eccentric spacer nut. Be sure to tighten the end of the fastener that in not directly contac ting the eccentric.
EN - 3 0 Adjust Pa rking Brake See Figure 22. 1. Disengage parking brake. 2. Loosen jam nut on parking brake cable adjuster and pull down on adjuster barrel until cable is taut, not tight. 3. Thread bottom nut until it cont acts bracket. 4. T ight en the top jam nut.
EN - 3 1 Replacing t he Hydro Pump Bel t See Figure 25. 1. P roperly stop and park unit (see St arting and Shut Off on page 18). 2. Us ing 1/2" (1.3 cm ) ratchet/breaker bar with an extension, extend the spring to relieve belt tension and remove the PT O belt from the mower clutch sheave (see Replacing Mower Belts on page 30).
EN - 3 2 MOWER DECKS Anti-scalp Ro ller Adjustment See Figure 26. The anti-scalp r ollers are set at the factor y for typical mowing height, but can be adjus ted for high or low cutting c onditions. Anti-Scalp rollers are intended to prevent lawn scalping, not to control cutting height.
EN - 3 3 HOC INDICATOR ADJUSTMENTS For accurate c utting the height s hown on t he HOC indicator dial must match t he cutting height. Adju st Inde x Wh eel 1. Releas e tension on HOC belt (see Adju st HOC Belt T ension o n page 33). 2. M ove transport lock knob into off (up) position.
