2 - 3 Installing the Battery in T erm inals without a Battery Door Lock The terminal is shipped with the batter y pac kaged separate fro m the unit. P erf or m the steps illustrated below to install the battery .
2 - 4 Step 2. Charge the Battery The pow er source for the Dolp hin terminal is the 3.7V Li-ion rechargeable battery located under the battery door on th e back pan el of the de vice. See Battery on page 3-12 f or additional inf or mation on battery stor age, use , and disposal.
2 - 5 Option 1: Charging from a power outlet Use only a UL Listed pow er supply , which has been qua lified b y Honeyw ell with an output rated at 5VDC and 1A with the de vice.
2 - 6 Step 3. Boot the Terminal and Access the Home Screen The terminal begins the boot process as soon as pow e r is applied. Do not press any b uttons or attempt to remov e the battery dur ing the initial boo t process.
2 - 7 The Home Screen The Android™ operating system provides space f o r user customization and control with fiv e Home Screen panels. Note: Some of t he features listed bel ow are specific to Dolphin 70e Black models equipped with Google Mobile™ Services and may require an acti ve Google account be setu p on your terminal.
2 - 8 Notification P anel A plus sign icon appears on the status ba r when the quantity of notification s e x ceed the a vailab le space on the bar . T o vie w all the notifications, t ouc h and hold the status bar , and then drag down to open the notification panel.

2 - 13 Alter nate K eys Some ke ys include a second symbol in red. In order to use the alter nate symbo l, touch and hold the k ey until the alternate symbol appears, and t hen release the k ey to type the symbol.

2 - 16 2. Unlock and remove the battery door. 3. Pull the battery latch back and remove the battery. 4. Insert the new battery and install the battery door . Apply pressure to the edges of the battery door to ensure the door is properly closed. Engage the door lock.

2 - 19 2. Touc h Reboot . Note: To perfor m a Hard Reset if the t ouch screen has st opped responding, press and hold the Power button f or approximately 8 seconds un til the terminal starts to r eboot. When the reset is complete, the Lo ck screen displays.

3 - 5 Feature Descriptions: Front , Bottom, and Right P anels Back Button By default, the Back button returns you to the previous screen. Bottom Speaker The integrated bottom speaker sounds audio si gnals as you scan bar code labels and en ter data.
3 - 6 Scan Button The Scan button is centrally locat ed for easy acce ss with the right or left hand. When pressed, the Scan button activates th e scanner/imager. The Scan button also functions as a system wake-up control for the terminal. You can reassign the b utton to launch applications or exe cute commands; see Hotkeys on page 2-12.
3 - 7 Bac k, T op, and Left P anels Dolphin 70e Black Models Equipped with a Battery Door Lock Note: If your Dolph in 70e Black model does not have a battery door lock, see page 3-8 .

3 - 9 Feature Descriptions: Back , T op, and Left P anels Audio Jack The audio jack is located under the protective do or on the top of the terminal. To access the jack gently lift the edge of the door and rotate it 90° counterclockwise. The 3.5 mm audio jack supports both speaker (ste reo) and microphone (mono) headsets.
3 - 10 Left Scan/Image Button By default, the left button triggers the scanner /imager. You can reassign the button to launch applications or execute commands; see Hotkeys on page 2-12.
3 - 11 The I/O Connector The I/O connector po wers the terminal, charges the ma in batter y , and f a cilitates comm unication. Dolphin 70e Blac k per ipher als are designed to w ork exclusiv ely with this connector . The I/O conn ector suppor ts low , full, and high speed USB v2.
3 - 12 Battery The primar y pow er source for the Dolphin t er minal is the 3.7V Li-io n rechargeab le batter y located under the battery door on the back panel of the de vice. Honeyw ell recommends, you k eep the batter y in the terminal charged at all times to help pre vent data loss .
3 - 13 Charging Options Dolphin terminals ship with the batter y significantly discharged of pow er . Before using a Dolphin terminal for the fir st time , charg e the battery with a Do lphin charging de vice for a minim um of 4 hours f or the standard batter y and 6 hour s for the e xtended battery .
3 - 14 • The maximum current supplied through a ch arging peripheral is 2.0A. • The maximum current supplied by the USB wall charger is 9 00mA. • The maximum current supplied by a USB Host can vary from 100mA to 50 0mA. Do not attempt to charge the terminal fro m a 100mA source.
3 - 15 Managing Battery P ower Letting the battery become fully discharged causes the terminal to lose all data in RAM. Honeyw ell recommends , y ou keep a charged batter y in the terminal at all times to help pre vent data loss . Removing the battery from the ter minal er ases all non-persistent me mor y .
3 - 16 Guidelines for Battery P ack Use and Disposal The f ollowing are general guidelines f or the saf e use and disposal of batteries: • Do not disassemble or open crush, bend or deform, puncture or shred.
3 - 17 Installing a SIM Car d and/or Replacing the Memory Card SIM Card Shor t f or Subscr iber Inf or mation Mod ule, a SI M card stores the subscriber's personal inf or mation, GSM/GPRS radio settings, security k eys, contacts , etc.
3 - 18 a. Remove the battery door and release the ba ttery retention strap. b. Pull the battery latch back and remove the battery. Do not pull on the battery retention strap when attempting to remove the battery . 3. Lift the card retention flap fo r the appropriate socket.
4 - 1 4 Using the Scan Image Engine Overview The Dolphin 70e Blac k ter minal houses a compact image engin e that instantly reads popular 1D and 2D bar codes and suppor ts omni-directional aiming and deco d ing f or g reater fle xibility in real-world settings .
4 - 2 Suppor ted Bar Code Symbologies Decoding The terminal suppor ts image decoding for use in v arious bar code reading and imaging applications. Full-area imaging pro vides omni-directional reading of linear and non-linear 1D and 2D bar codes , OCR, signature capture , and picture taking.
4 - 3 Using the Scan Demo to Decode a Bar Code The Scan Demo demonstr ates the functionality of the integr ated scan image engine in the terminal and is not intended as a funct i onal b usiness solution.
4 - 4 2. Touc h Scan or press the Scan butto n to activate the imaging engine. Once activated, the imager automatically scans and decodes bar co des presented in the field of view. 3. Touc h Scan or press the Scan button to de activate the imager. 4. Slide the Automatic blue button to the OFF position to d isable the feature.
4 - 5 3. Modify the settings to meet your application needs, and then press th e Back button to return to the Scan Demo screen. Settings T ouch the chec kbo x to enable or disab le a f eature. • Vibrate - When checked, the terminal vibrat es to indicate a successf ul bar code scan and decode.

4 - 7 2D Matrix Symbol Capturing Images The image-capture process is an intuitiv e, split-seco nd oper ation for e xperienced users. By f ollowing the basic guidelines , ne w users can easily de velop their o wn technique and, with practice , quickly learn to adapt it to diff erent application environments .
4 - 8 2. Point the Dolphin terminal at the object. 3. Adjust the terminal’s position until the object a ppears on the touch screen the way you want it to appear in the image. Note: Touch the to toggle the targetin g cross hair on the touchscr een on or off.
4 - 9 2. Press the Menu button. 3. Touc h Setting to access and modify t he following options: • Select Symbology to configure the type of symbologies you want the IQ Imaging Demo to decode. Touch the symbology’s c heckbox to enable or disable the symbology.
4 - 10 5. Touc h Save . The signature imag e file is saved in the mnt/sdcard/honeywell/signaturedemo folder on the microSD card. Uploading Images Image files can be uploa ded to a host wo rkstation using a USB conn ection, see page 2-19 .
5 - 1 5 Using the Color Camera Overview Dolphin 70e Blac k ter minals are eq uipped with 5.0-Megapix el auto f ocus cameras to pro vide easy integra tion of color picture and video ca pture into business applications. The camera lens and camer a flash are located on the bac k panel of the ter minal.
5 - 2 T aking a Picture 1. Open the Camera app (see page 5-1). 2. Verify is selected. 3. Center the object you want to take a picture of on the live preview screen. 4. Touch to capture the picture. Note: Touch the thum bnail preview to access optio ns to share the picture.
5 - 3 Uploading Pictures and Videos Picture and Video files can be uploaded to a computer using a USB connection. F or additional inf or- mation, see page 2-19.

6 - 1 6 Settings Overview The Settings allows y ou to verify and/or alter system par ameters to customized y our ter minal to meet your specific nee ds. T ouch All Apps > Settings or pull down th e notification panel, and then touch the Settings icon ne xt to the date.

T wo additional options: Unmount SD c ard f or saf e SD card remov al and Erase SD card f or erasing all data on the installed SD card are also av ailabl e from the Storage screen.

6 - 5 4. Follow the on-scre en instructions to enter the required information for the account type selected. You may need to provide a user name and password, select security settings, and configure data sync preferences during the setup. 5. The account appears on the Accou nts & Sync list when setup is complete.
6 - 6 Encr yption Y ou can encr ypt all the data on y our Dolphin ter minal using the Encrypt phone option as an adv anced security measure in case y our de vice is ev er lost or stolen. When the terminal is encr ypted, you must enter a numeric PIN or pass word each time you tur n the po wer on.
6 - 7 Install from SD Card T o install encr ypted cer tificate from the SD card installed in the te r minal: 1. Copy the certificate from the host device (computer) to the root directory of the SD card. Note: Ensur e your certificates are saved with the corre c t file ext ension.
6 - 8 T o modify the def ault method for e ntering text: 1. Touc h All Apps > Settings > Language & input > Default . 2. Select an input method An droid Keyboard or Enhanced Keyboard . Note: Dolphin 7 0e Black terminals ar e shipped fro m the factory con figured to use the Honeywell Enhanced Keyboard as the default input method.
6 - 9 To configure Text-to-speech (TTS) settings, touch All Apps > Settings > Language & input > T e xt-to-speech output . The settings screen pro vides access for y ou to: • Select and configure the preferred engine used for speech synthesis when you want to hear text read aloud.
6 - 10 Ser vices When the Ta l k B a c k ser vice app is enabled, spo ken and vibration f eedback help b lind and vision- impaired users inter act with the ter minal. The spok en feedbac k includes descr iptions of what y ou touch, select, and activ ate.
7 - 1 7 Comm unication Wireless & Networks Settings Under the Wireless & Networks heading on the Settings screen there are options for turning the onboard wireless radios in the terminal on or o ff and for configuring n etwork connections.
7 - 2 Wi-Fi Netw ork Connections T urning Wi-Fi Networking On or Off 1. Touc h All Apps > Settings 2. Touch the Wi-Fi OFF /ON toggle box to turn the radio or . Connecting to a Wi-Fi Network 1. Touc h All Apps > Settings > Wi-Fi . 2. Verify the Wi-Fi is turned .

8 - 1 8 W orking with Wireless Wide Area Netw orking (WW AN) Overview The Dolphin 70e Blac k has two r adio options f or WW AN voice and data communications: • a multi-mode (software definable) WW AN radio, which provides support for three ba nd 3.
8 - 2 F or ter minals with the m ulti-mode (software definab le) WW AN radio: • A penta band antenna su pports 850, 1900, 2100 Mhz (UMTS/HSPA), 850/900/1800/1900 Mhz (GSM/GPRS/EDGE) and 800/1900 Mhz (EV-DO/CDMA).
8 - 3 • Headset Mode When a headset is plugg ed into the Audio Jack, the terminal defaults to the headset for receiving calls and audio in put. • Hands-Free Mode The bottom speakers are used as a speaker phone.
8 - 4 2. Input the telephone number using the keypad. Note: If you make an err or, touch once to delete the last dig it entered or touch and hold to delete t he entire number entered. Touch if you want to perform a te xt search to find a co ntact. 3. Touch the Phone ico n below the keypad to initiate the call.
8 - 5 Additional Options A v ailable During a Call Once a phone call is in process , you can access to the f ollowing options b y touching the rele vant icon. Accessing V oicemail The V oicemail icon appears on the status bar at the top of the screen when y ou hav e a new v oicemail message.
8 - 6 Phone App Settings Open the Phone app , press the Menu b utton , and select Settings to setup and ma nage adv anced phone options. Fixed Dialing Number s (FDN) When FDN is enab led, outgoing calls are restricted to fix ed dialing numbers sa ved on the activ e SIM card installed in the terminal.
8 - 7 5. Check the box next to “Set as primary account” if you want the account to be used as the default for all outbound Internet calls. 6. Select Optional settings to configure Authentication user name, Display name, Outbound proxy address, Port number, Transport type and Send keep-alive.
8 - 8 Outgoing Inter net Call Settings T o configure when y our pr imary Inter net calling account should be used f or outgoing calls: 1. Open the Phone app , press the Menu b utton , and select Settings . 2. Touc h Use Internet calling under th e Internet call settings heading.
8 - 9 Impor ting Contacts from a SIM card 1. Verify the SIM card that inclu des your sa ved contacts is instal led in the terminal. 2. Touch the People app on the Home screen. 3. Press the Menu button . 4. Touc h Import/export. 5. Touc h Import from SIM card .
8 - 10 Enable/Disab le Data T ransmission When Roaming Check the Data r oaming bo x to allow data tr ansmission on networks outside your carrier’ s mobile network. Note: If thi s option is ena bled, additional char ges may apply dependin g on the covera ge of your mobile dat a network plan.
8 - 11 4. On the Edit access point screen, touch an item to ente r new information or modify the existing APN settings. Note: Ask your wireless service provide r for the correct settin gs if you are unsure of th e information required . 5. Press the Menu button on the terminal’s keypad .
8 - 12 Navigating the Data Usage Screen Only mobile network statistics are displa yed th e first time you access the Data usa ge screen. T o view Wi-Fi and/or Eth er net inf or mation, press the Menu b utton and select Show Wi-Fi usa g e and/or Show Ethernet usage .
8 - 13 Setting a Data Us age W ar ning Limit Y ou can set the ter minal to displa y a warning message when a specific data usage le vel is reached. Drag the or ange line on the graph to the data le v el that you want a s the trigger for a w ar ning message .

9 - 1 9 W orking with Bluetooth and NFC T echnology Bluetooth T echnology T urning the Bluetooth Radio On or Off Bluetooth™ is a shor t-range wirele ss communicati ons technology used to e xchanged data betwe en de vices over a distance of a pproximately 26.
9 - 2 3. On the Paired Devices list touch the settings icon next to name of the device you want to disconnect. 4. Touc h Rename , Unpair or select a different profile from the Profiles list available for the paired device.
9 - 3 6. The Bluetooth device picke r screen opens. Do one of the following: a. Touc h Scan for devices , a nd then touch the name of the re ceiving de vice from the available device list . OR b. Touch on the name of an alrea dy paired device from the Bluetooth device list.
9 - 4 Security Recommendation NFC functionality is enab led by def ault on Dolphin 70e Black models ending with th e letter N (e.g., 70e xxN). The recommended setting f or NFC functionality is disabled unt il the f eature is required. Enab ling NFC allows data e xchanges between the ter minal and other NFC de vices or tags.
