Notebook PC User Manual 35 Emergency Shutdown In case your operating syst em cannot properly turn OFF or restar t, there is an additional way t o shutdown your Notebook PC: Hold the power button over 4 seconds. IMPORT ANT! DO NO T use emergency shutdown while data is being written; doing so can result in loss or destruction of your data.
36 Notebook PC User Manual Sleep and Hibernate P ower management settings can be found in the Windo ws > Con trol Panel > Hardw are and Sound > Po wer Options . In P ower Options , you can define Sleep/Hibernate or Shut Do wn for closing the displa y panel or pressing the power butt on.
Notebook PC User Manual 37 Sleep is the same as Suspend-to- RAM (STR). This function stores your current data and sta tus in RAM while many components are turned OFF . Because RAM is volatile , it requires po wer to keep (refresh) the data. Click the Window s button and the arrowhead next to the lock icon to see this option.
38 Notebook PC User Manual Thermal P ower C ontrol There are thr ee power control methods f or controlling the Notebook PC’ s thermal state. T hese power contr ol cannot be configured by the user and should be known in case the Notebook PC should enter these states .
Notebook PC User Manual 39 Special Keyboard Functions C olored Hot Ke ys (on selected models) The follo wing defines the colored hot keys on the Notebook PC’ s keyboard. The colored commands can only be accessed by first pressing and holding the function key while pressing a key with a colored command .

Notebook PC User Manual 45 Status Indicat ors Po wer Indicator The po wer indicator lights when the Notebook PC is turned ON and blinks slowly when the Notebook PC is in the Suspend-to- RAM (Sleep) mode. This indicator is OFF when the Notebook PC is turned OFF or in the Suspend-to-Disk (Hibernation) mode.
46 Notebook PC User Manual Drive A ctivit y Indicator Indicates that the Notebook PC is accessing one or more storage device(s) such as the hard disk. The light flashes propor tional to the access time. Bluetooth / W ireless Indicator This is only applic able on models with internal Bluetooth (BT ) and built-in wir eless LAN.

Notebook PC User Manual 53 Using the T ouchpad The touchpad is an int eractive device that simulates the functions of a regular mouse. I t allows you t o use one-finger and multi-finger gestures to move the poin ter so you can sele c t and click items , rota te and zoom images, scroll lists, as well as swipe and switch between windows.

Clicking - Clicking on the touchpad simulate s the functions of the lef t mouse button and right mouse button.
Notebook PC User Manual 55 Rotating - Rotating images clockwise/counterclockwise is done on the touchpad using the pinch gesture . Put two fingers on the touchpad then turn in a circular motion, either clockwise or counterclockwise, to rotate an image.
56 Notebook PC User Manual The touch pad re spond s to mov ement no t to fo rce . The re is no need to tap the surface too hard. T apping too har d does not increase the responsiv eness of the touchpad . The t ouchpad responds best to light pressure .
Notebook PC User Manual 57 Disabling the T ouchpad automatically Y ou can automatically disable the t ouchpad when an external USB mouse is attached . T o disable the touchpad: 1. Go to Con trol Panel . Change view settings to Large Icons then select Mouse.

60 Notebook PC User Manual Actual location will vary by model. Emergency ejec t The emergency eject is located in a hole on the optical drive and is used to eject the optical drive tray in case the electronic eject does not work. D o not use the emergency ejec t in place of the electronic eject.
