6 Basi c techniq ues for b etter images When you press the shutte r but ton halfw ay dow n, the camer a adjusts the focus auto matical ly (Auto Focu s). Remember t o press the shutter button only halfway down. When foc using is diff icul t t [Focus] (page 42) If the imag e looks blurred even after foc using, it may be be cause of cam era shake.
7 Basic t echniqu es for bet ter ima ges Hint s for pre venti ng blur The came ra mov ed ac ciden tally whe n you too k the imag e. This i s called “Camera shake” . On the othe r hand, if th e subject moved whe n you took the image, it is called “ subject blur”.
8 Basi c tech niqu es for bet ter i mages Y ou can create various imag es by adjusti ng the exposure a nd the ISO se nsitivity . Exposure is the amoun t of ligh t that the ca mera wil l receive when you re lease the shut ter .
9 Basic t echniqu es for bet ter ima ges The appare nt color of t he subject is affected by the light ing condi tions. Exam ple: Th e color of an imag e affec ted by li ght sou rces The colo r tones are ad justed automati cally in t he auto adjus tment mode .
10 Basi c tech niqu es for bet ter i mages A digita l image is ma de up of a col lection of sm all dots ca lled pixels. If it contai ns a large number of pi xels, the picture become s large, it takes up mor e memory, and the image is displayed in fine detail.
11 Basic t echniqu es for bet ter ima ges The ey es of the s ubject may come out red , or fuzzy whi te cir cular spo ts may appe ar when using the flash . These phe nomena can be redu ced by taking the following steps. The “R ed-eye ph enome non” Pupils becom e dilated in dark environment s.

19 Using the in ternal memo r y The camer a has approximat ely 12 MB of internal memo ry . Th is memory is not remo va ble. Even when the re is no “M emor y Stick Duo” media in serted in the cam era, you can record images usi ng this intern al memory .

27 Basic Operation s Shooting still images (Scene Selectio n mode) Scene Se lectio n modes The followi ng mod es are preset to m atch the scene conditio ns. * When you shoot images using (T wi light Portrait) or (T wilight) mode, the shutter speed becomes slower , and blurring is occur frequently , so use of a tripod is recommended.

30 View ing images 1 Press the (Playback) button. • If you press the (Playback) b utton when the camera is powered off, the ca mera is turned on automatica lly and set to playback mode. T o switch to the shooting mode, press the (Playback) button again.

81 Print ing sti ll im ages Printing st ill images How to pri nt sti ll im ages When you print images sho t in [16:9] mode, bot h edges ma y be c ut off, so be sure to check b efore printing (pa ge 94). Y ou can prin t images b y con necting the camer a direc tly to a Pict Bridge co mplian t printer .
82 Printi ng images directly using a Pi ctBridg e compli ant print er Even if you do no t have a computer , you can print i mages shot usin g your cam era by conne cting the cam era dir ectly to a Pict Bridg e co mpl iant pr inte r . • “PictBridge” is based on the CIP A standard.

87 T roubleshooting T r oublesho oting T rou blesho oti ng If you experienc e trouble with your came ra, try the following sol utions. Be aware that by send ing the cam era for repa ir , you give consent tha t the conte nts of the inter nal memory may be che cked.
88 T r oubles hoot ing Cannot in sert the bat tery pac k. • Inser t the batter y pack cor rectly to pus h the batte ry eject le ve r . Cannot turn on t he camera. • After inser ting the ba ttery pack in to the came ra, it may take a few moments for the camera to power up.
89 T roubleshooting T r oubl eshooti ng Cannot record images. • Check the free capacity of the intern al memory or “Memo ry Stick Duo” media. If it i s full, do one of the followin g: – Delete unne cessar y images (pa ge 32). – Change the “Memory Stic k Duo” media.
90 T r oubles hoot ing The flash doe s not work . • The flas h is set to (Flash for ced of f) (page 23). • Y ou cannot use the flash when: – [REC Mode] is set to [B urst] (pag e 39). – The mode dial is set to (High Sens itivity) (page 29) or (T wili ght) mode is sel ected in the Sce ne Selection m ode (page 28).
91 T roubleshooting T r oubl eshooti ng The ima ge is too bright. • Adjust the exposu re (page 39). The image colors are no t correct. • Set [Col or Mode] to [No rmal] (pag e 47). V ertical strea ks appear when you are sh ooting a very bright subject.
92 T r oubles hoot ing The image ap pears rough right after playback starts. • This ma y happen due to image process ing. This is not a m alfunc tion. The ima ge does not appear on th e TV . • Check [V ideo Out] to see if the video output signa l of your camera is se t to the color syste m of your TV (page 57).
