Preparation 1 - Turn ing Power ON 27 Prep aration 1 - T urning Power ON T urning power ON 1 Press the power switch to “ ” (ON) side. The equipment starts warming itself up. The warm-up time takes approx. 25 seconds. When the warm-up has finished, the [ST ART] la mp is lit to show th at the equipment is ready for copying.
1 PREP ARA TION 28 Preparation 1 - Turning Power ON Saving energy when not in us e - Energy saving mode - T o reduce power consumption, the e quipment automatically enters in to the energy saving mo de when a specified pe riod of time has passed since its last use.

Accept able media types S tandard size pla in paper (17 to 20 lb. Bond) can be used fo r the drawers in the equi pment and the Paper Feed Unit (optional).
Preparation 2 - Placing Copy Paper 31 Recommended p aper T o ensure the best copy performance, TOSHIBA recommends the paper types listed below . If you want to use paper other than that we recommend, contact your service technician. *1 Be sure to use the overhead transparencies that TOSHIBA recommends.
1 PREP ARA TION 32 Preparation 2 - Placing Copy Paper Placing p aper in drawers Follow the procedure below to place copy paper in the drawer . For the acceptable paper , see the following page: P .30 “Acceptable media types” 1 T urn the power of the equipment ON.
Preparation 2 - Placing Copy Paper 33 4 Pull out the trailing guide (A), and then reinst all the guide at the position of the desired p aper size. The paper size is indicated on the botto m inner surface of the drawer . 5 While pushing the green knob of the side gui des fully , widen the gap between them.
1 PREP ARA TION 34 Preparation 2 - Placing Copy Paper 6 Place p aper in the drawer . y The maximum number of she ets that can be placed at one time is 250 (17 to 20 lb. Bond). Be sure that the stack height of paper is not higher than the line indicated at the inner side of the side guide and trailing guide.
Preparation 2 - Placing Copy Paper 35 8 Be sure that the st ack of pa per fit s completely under the latches of the side guides. 9 Change the p aper size indicator to match the size of p aper placed. 10 Push the drawer straight into the equipment slowly until it comes to a stop.
1 PREP ARA TION 36 Preparation 3 - Registering Size of Paper Placed Prep aration 3 - Registering Size of Paper Placed When you place paper in a drawer for the first time or when you place paper whose size is differ- ent from that of the p aper which has been placed in the draw er , the new paper size needs to be registered into the equipment.
Preparation 3 - Register ing Size of Paper Placed 37 3 Press the [COPY] button several times until th e lamp of the p aper size you placed in the drawer is lit. If the [FUNCTION CLEAR] button is pressed at th is step, the size is not registered and the equipm ent will retu rn to it s normal st atus.

2 HOW TO MAKE COPIES 40 Placing Originals Placing Originals Accept able originals Booklets, three-dimensional objects and some types of special media can be pla ced on the orig- inal glass, as well as plain paper . When the Au toma tic Document Fee der (optional) is u sed, a stack of plain paper originals can be automatically scanned one by one.
Placing Originals 41 Placing originals on the original glass Plain paper or some special media types which are not acceptable for the Automatic Document Feeder (optional), such as overhea d transparenci es or tracing paper , should be placed on the original glass.
2 HOW TO MAKE COPIES 42 Placing Originals Placing booklet-type original s such as books or cat alogs Place a book-type original on the origina l glass. Do not place heavy objects (9 lb. or more) and do not press on it with force. Breaking the glass could injure you.
Placing Originals 43 Using Automatic Docume nt Feeder (optional) When a stack of originals are placed on the Automatic Document Feeder (op tional), the originals are automatically scanne d one by one. The following types of origin als are available: y Some media types may not be used.

2 HOW TO MAKE COPIES 46 Making Copies When the number of sheet s exiting has exceeded 250 T o prevent exitin g paper from falling off the re ceiving tray , the equipment causes copying to pause when approx. 250 sheets of p a per have co ntinuously exited.

Index) y S pecial media types such as tracing paper , sti cker labels or overhead transparencies y S tandard size paper which cannot be placed in a drawer (e.
Using Bypass Tray 49 Byp a ss copying This section describe s the bypass copying procedure. 1 Place p aper straight on the bypass t ray face down. Then align the side guides to the p aper length while holding (A). y Be sure that the stack height of paper does not exceed the indicators of th e side guides.

Paper Selection 53 Paper Selection Y ou can select the size of copy paper in two ways; one is automat ic paper selection in which the equipment automatically selects copy paper of th e same size a s the original, and the other i s manual paper selection in which you can select the desired paper size manually .
3 COPYING FUNCTIONS 54 Paper Selection 3 Press the APS/AMS selecting button and selec t APS. (The APS lamp is lit.) When the Automatic Document Feeder (optional) is not in stalled, the APS/AMS selecting button is no t enabled. 4 Select the other copy modes as required, and the n press the [ST ART] button.

The reproduction ratio appears on the LED display . 4 Press the (zooming out) or (zooming in) button until the desired reproduction ratio appears.

Copying in Same Page Order as Or iginals - Sort Copying - 61 Copying in Same Page Order as Originals - Sort Copying - When you make severa l sets of copies, the cop ies can be made to exit in the same order as the originals in each set. This is called sort copying.

Paper Jams 75 Paper Jams Checking position of p a per jams When an original or a sheet of copy paper has jammed within the equipment, copying stops and the paper jam lamp blinks. Additionally , the paper jam positio n lamp blinks to show you wh ere the paper jam has occurred.
5 TROUBLESH OOTING 76 Pape r Jams When releasing jammed p aper Observe the following precauti ons when you release jammed paper: Do not tear jammed p aper . Pull out jammed paper carefully with both hands, trying not to tear it. If you release it forcibly , the jammed paper will be torn and it will make the release difficult.

Paper Jams 81 Paper jam behind transfer unit Be careful not to let your fingers be caught between the equipme nt and the side cover . This could injure you. 1 Open the side cover . 2 Pull the transfer unit toward you carefully to lay it down while hold- ing up the green lever .

Cle ar the p aper if there is any . 5 Close the transfer unit and the s ide cover . Paper jams within fuser unit y Be careful not to let your fingers be caught between the equipment and the side cover .
Paper Jams 83 2 Open the transport guide while holding the knob. 3 Release the jammed p aper . Pull the jammed paper up or down as shown below depending on the positio n of the paper . Be sure not to touch the photoconductive drum whe n releasing the jammed paper .

5 TROUBLESH OOTING 86 Replacing Toner Cartri dge 3 Pull out the toner cartridge. Never attempt to incine rate toner cartridges. Dispose of used toner cartridges in accordan ce with local regulations. 4 Shake the new toner cartridge strongly wit h the label surface down to loosen the toner inside.
Replacing Toner Cartr idge 87 6 Pull out the seal in the direction of the arro w . 7 Insert the toner cartridge along the rail. y Before inserting the toner cartridge, check if the green lever is raised and raise it if not. y Insert the toner cartridge un til you hear a click sound.

(2) Push the cleaner onto the front wall, and then che ck if the cleaner pad has contacted with the transfer charger wire.

5 TROUBLESH OOTING 92 Before Calling Service Technician Image trouble Copy paper jams. Copy paper not acceptable for the equipment is being used. Check if the copy paper is acceptable for the equipment.
Before Calling Service Technician 93 The copy image is fogged. There is a slight gap between the original glass and the original. Lower the Platen Cover (optional) or the Automatic Document Feeder (o ptional) fully so that the original will contact with the original glass.

6 MAINTENANCE AND INSPECTION 96 Daily Inspection Daily Inspection We recommend a weekly cleaning of the following items to assure you the best scan ning perfor- mance: y Be sure not to scratch the parts to be cleaned. y Do not use sol vent such as thinner or benze ne to clean machinery .
Daily Inspection 97 Cleaning charger If the inside of the charger is dirty , staining may appear on the copied image. Clea n the charger following the procedure below . 1 Open the front cover . 2 Clean the charger . Hold the cleanin g knob of the charger and pull it out toward you care fully until it comes to a stop.
6 MAINTENANCE AND INSPECTION 98 Daily Inspection Cleaning transfer charger When the transfer charger wire is dirty , white steaks or unevenness of the density may appear on copied images, or the density of the whole image may be lowered. Clean th e transfer charger wire following the p rocedure below .
