This is mainly used for heavy pr int media. When used in conjunction with the multi purpose feed tray, the paper path th rough the printer is essentially straight.
Introduction > 13 G ETTING STARTED P OWER SAVING MODE If you do not use the machine for a while, it will enter the power saving mode to control the power consumption of the device. To cancel or initiate power saving mode, press the Power Save button on the control panel.
Paper recommendations > 14 P APER RECOMMENDATIONS Your printer wi ll handle a variety of prin t media, includi ng a range of paper weights and sizes, labels and envel opes. This section prov ides general advice on choice of media, and explains how to use each type.
Paper recommendations > 15 M ULTI PURPOSE TRAY The multi purpose tray can handle the same si zes as the cassette trays but in wei ghts up to 220 g/m² . For very heavy paper stock use the face up (rear) paper stacker. This ensures that the paper path through th e printer is almost strai ght.
Loading paper > 16 L OADING PAPER C ASSETTE TRAYS 1. Re move the paper tra y from the printer . 2. F an the paper to be loaded at the edges (1) and in the middle (2) to ensure that all sheets are properly separated, then tap th e edges of the stack on a flat surface to make it flush again (3).
Loading paper > 17 3. Load paper (letter headed paper face down and top edge tow ards the front of the printer), as shown. 4. Adjust the rear stopper (a) and paper guides (b) to the size of paper being used. 5. Close the paper tra y gently . To prevent paper jams: > Do not leave space b etween the paper and the guides and rear stopper .
Loading paper > 18 > Do not pull the paper tr ay out during prin ting (except as descri bed below for the 2nd tra y). NOTE > If you have two trays and you are printing from the 1s t (upper) tray, you can pull out the 2nd (lo wer) tray during printing to reload it.
Loading paper > 19 M ULTI PURPOSE TRAY 1. Open the multi purpose tr ay (a). 2. Fold out the paper supports (b). 3. Press gently down on the paper platform (c) to ensure it is latched down. 4. Load the paper and adjust the paper guides (d) to the size of paper being used.

Menu functions > 21 M ENU FUNCTIONS This section lists the menus accessed via the co ntrols on the printer’s operator panel and displayed in the LCD window. O PERATOR PANEL 1. READY LED ON: Ready to receiv e data. BLINK 1 (0.8 sec interval): Processing data.

Menu functions > 30 C OLOR MENU The printer automatically adjusts colour bala nce and density at appropriate intervals, optimising the printed output for bright white paper viewed in natural daylight conditions. The items on this me nu provid e a means of changing the default settings for special or particularly difficul t print jobs.
Menu functions > 31 S YS CONFIG MENU This menu adjusts general printer setting s to suit the way you prefer to work. CMYK CONVERSION ON OFF Setting to “OFF” wi ll simplify t he convers ion process of CMYK data, which will redu ce the proc essing time.
Menu functions > 32 PCL EMULATION This menu controls sett ings effective when th e printer is operating in PCL emulati on mode. JAM RECOVERY ON OFF Specifies whether the pri n ter should perform jam recovery after a paper jam has occurr ed.
Menu functions > 33 PPR EMULATION This menu controls setting s ef fective when the printer is op erating in PPR emulation mode. PEN WIDTH ADJUST ON /OFF When minimum width is specified in PCL, s ometimes a 1-dot line, looks broken.
Menu functions > 34 FX EMULATION This menu controls settings ef fective when the printer is op erating in FX emulation mode. FIT TO LET TER DISABLE ENABLE Sets the printi ng mode that can fit prin t data, equivalent to 11 inches (66 lines), in the LETTER -size printable area.
Menu functions > 35 USB MENU This menu controls the operation of t he printer’s USB data interface. N ETWORK MENU This menu controls the operat ion of the pr inter’s 10Base-T/100Base- TX network i nterface. ITEM SETTINGS EXPLANATION SOFT RESET ENABLE / DISABLE Enables or disables the SOF T RESET command.
Menu functions > 36 IPV4 ADDRESS xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx Current assign ed IP address. T o change, press OK and use Menu buttons to incremen t 1st octet, th en press OK again to move on to next oc tet. When 4th octet ha s been set, press OK again to register new address.

Menu functions > 39 U SAGE MENU This menu is for information onl y, and provides an indication of total usage of the printer and the expected life lef t in its consumable it em s. This is parti cularly useful if you do not have a full set of replacement consumables to hand and you need to know ho w soon you will need them.
Menu functions > 40 A DMINISTRATOR M ENU This menu should only be ch anged by the System Administrators. In order to gain access to this menu, follow the instructions in “How to change the setti ngs - admin istrator” on page 23 . This menu is in ENGLISH only.
Menu functions > 41 OP MENU (cont.) FX EMULA TION ENABLE DISABLE Set up ENABLE/DISABLE condition for FX EMULA TI ON category . If DISABLE is selected, FX EMU LA TION category of USERS MENU will not appear . USB MENU ENABLE DISABLE Set up ENABLE/DISABLE condition for USB MENU category .
Menu functions > 42 SECURITY MENU JOB LIMIT A TION OFF ENCRYPTED JOB Job limitation mode control. Jobs other than specif ied ones are reject ed. MAKE SECURE SD-M EXECUTE SD Card encoding fu nctio n is made effe ctive. Formation of the cipher key and encoding function (security mode) information is turned on.
Menu functions > 43 SECURIT Y MENU (cont.) RESET CIPHER KEY EXECUTE Resets a cipher key to be used on an encrypted SD card. When this processing is done, all data stor ed on the SD card cannot be restored. After executi on, the following confirmat ion messages will appear .
Menu functions > 44 FILE SYS MAINTE2 CHK FILE SYS EXECUTE Executing th is function will resolve any mismatch between the actual and the displayed free space of the fi le system and recov er the manage ment data (F A T informat ion). Note 1: It take s several seconds to complete this funct ion.
Menu functions > 45 LANGUAGE MENU LANG INITIALIZE EXECUTE Initi alise the message file loaded in FLASH MEMORY . If NO is sele cted, the mac hine will go bac k to the source menu. The pr ocedure for cl earing the disk will st art immediately after the menu and machi ne reboot.
Menu functions > 46 P RINT STATISTICS This menu should only be ch anged by the System Administrators. In order to gain access to this menu, follow the instructions in “How to change the setti ngs - admin istrator” on page 23 , but hold down the Menu button instead of the OK button.
Maintenance > 47 M AINTENANCE R EPLACING CONSUMABLE ITEMS Only use genuine original consumables to ensure the best quality and performance from your hardware. Non origina l products may adversely affect your printer's performance an d invalidate your warranty.
Maintenance > 48 2. Note the positions of the four cartridges. It is essential that they go back in the same order . (a) S lide the coloured release collar on th e cartridge to be replaced fully towards the right hand side of the printer.
Maintenance > 49 5. Remo ve the new cartridge from its box but leav e its wrappi ng material i n place for the moment. 6. Gently shake the new cart ridge from end to end sever al times to loosen and distribute the toner evenly inside the cartridge.
Maintenance > 50 11. Gently wipe the LED head surface with a clean, lint free cloth. 12. Finally , close the top cov er and press down firmly at both sides so that the cov er latches closed. I MAGE DRUM REPLACEMENT The image drum assembly comes complete with its own installation detail s which give full instructions on rep lacement.
Maintenance > 51 R EPLACING THE TRANS FER BELT UNIT The belt unit is located und er the image drum assembly. Switch off the printer and allow the fuser to cool for about 10 minutes before opening the cover. 1. Press the cov er release and open the print er’s top co ver fully .
Maintenance > 52 4. Pull the locking leve rs at each side of the transfer b elt up and towards the front of the machine. 5. Using the locking lev ers (a), lift the belt (b ) upwards and withdr aw from the machine. 6. Lower the new belt unit into place, with the drive gear tow ards the rear of the printer .
Maintenance > 53 F USER REPLACEMENT The fuser is located inside the printer just behind the toner cartri dges. 1. Press the cov er release and open the print er’s top co ver fully . 2. Identify the fuser handle (a) on the top of the fuser unit. 3.
Maintenance > 54 8. Push the two retaining levers (b) tow ards the rear of the pri nter to lock the fu ser in place. 9. Finally , close the top cov er and press down firmly at both sides so that the cov er latches closed.
Maintenance > 55 C LEANING ... THE UNIT CASING 1. Switch the printer off . 2. Wipe the unit surface with a soft cloth moistened sparingly with water or neutr al detergent. 3. Use a soft dry cloth to dry t he unit surface. 4. Switch the printer on. .

Installing upgrades > 60 5. Gently push the SD card into the slot as shown. 6. Replace t he inner access cov er (b) and turn locking screw (a) clockwise to secure it shut. 7. Replace the access co ver and latch it closed. 8. Reconnect t he AC power cable and switch the printer on.
Installing upgrades > 61 A DDITIONAL PAPER TRAY 1. Switch the printer off and di sconnect the AC power cable. 2. Place additi onal paper tr ay on desired loc ation. 3. Observing safety rules for li fting and, usin g locating guides, place printer on top of the additional paper tr ay .
Installing upgrades > 62 S ETTING THE DRIVER DEVI CE OPTIONS Once your new upgrade has been installed, yo u may need to update the printer dri ver so that the additional features are available to your applications. Accessor ies such as additional paper trays will only be usable if the printer driver on your computer knows they are there.

Wipe the LED head with a soft, lint-free clo th. The toner is low. Open th e top cover and tap the cartridge a few times to evenly distribute any remaining toner .
Troubleshooting > 72 Horizont al Lines an d spots appear periodically . When the inte rval is about 94mm (4in), the im age drum (the green tube) is damaged or dirty . Wipe it lightly wi th a soft cloth. Replac e the image drum cartridge when it is damaged.
