8 1. PRODUCT FEA TURES 1.1 Product Introduction This DVR uses hard di sk drives instead of VCR tapes to store di gital video image s. It enables you to enjoy the extreme flexibility of digital image arch iving instead of clu msy tape management, and is absolutely compatible with most multiplexers in the market.
9 2. DESCRIPTION OF THE FRONT/REAR VIEW 2.1 Front V iew 23 22 21 20 1 Hard-disk drive comp artment. This compa r tment allows you to inst all a drive for backup purposes or additional storage. Make sure the drive is well secured with the mounting scre ws in the mobile rack before you put the rack into the compartment.
10 PLA Y button: Press to play back a recorded video from the har d disk. While playing back the re corded video at faster or slower speeds than the re corded spe ed, press this button to return to the regular playback speed. STOP button: Press this to stop playing back a recorded video.
11 2.2 Rear V iew MUX MAIN MONITO R IN Connector: This BNC connector is used to connect the live video output from a multiplexer to the unit. VIDEO IN Connector: This BNC connector is used to connect the video output from a camera or a multiplexer to the unit.

13 3. INST ALLA TION 3.1 Basic Connection CONNECTING WITH A SINGLE CAMERA (OR A QUAD PROCESSOR) Please set the MUL TIPLEXER option to OFF on the REC Setting p age in the main menu.

15 3.3 Up dating System Sof tware If the system software of the unit needs to be upgrade d, please take the followin g steps to safely update it. Important: Before carrying out the following procedures, please ensure the floppy disk is working and the file of system software is int act (The size of the file should be up to 170 K.
16 3.4 V ideo format (NTSC/P AL) selection If the video format (NTSC/PAL) of the unit needs to be changed, pleases take th e following steps. If the unit is currently set to NTSC; 1, Push sto p button. 2, Hold down the and pause buttons simultaneously.

BASIC OPERA TIONS This section shows you how to operate and manage the unit when it gets in the way . 4.1 Configuring Recording Settings Recording Ti me settings (Recording Rate and Picture Quality Setting) Recording time will vary depen ding on the image size, recording rate, and the cap acity of hard-disk drive.

19 4.2.2 Timer Recording T imer recording provides two periods of time each d ay in a weekly t able which programs the DVR to turn on and off at specified time s. This way the DVR will st art an d stop recording ac cording to the programmed schedule. Ple ase take the f o llowing step s to program the scheduled re cording.

21 4.2.3 Alarm Recording T ake the following steps to activate the programm ed alarm recording. For ALM REC RA TE , ALM REC QUALITY , ALARM ST A TUS , ALM DURA TION , and PRE-ALARM settings, please refer to section 5.4 for more details. (1) Press the SETUP button to enter the MAIN MENU .

23 4.3 Playback Operations This section shows you how to operate the fast, slo w , and single-picture playback functio ns, and details how the unit is to playback a file in dif ferent ope ration status. Please refer to the following pa ragraphs specifying the relevant det ails.
24 NOTE: The playback speed w ill be displayed on the screen. Ho w ever , when playing a recorded video from a multiplexer , the playback speed only display on encoding (multiplexing) mode. Press the MUX / DVR button to s w itch between decoding and encoding mode.

27 4.5 Dat a Backup 4.5.1 Backup Operations There are three ways available to duplicate t he recorded video fro m HD 1 and HD 2 to HD 3. Please take the following step s to proceed. (1) Set HD 3 to BACKUP first. T ake the following step s. Press the SETUP button to enter the setup mode and select the DISK .
28 ALARM: Dup licating all the alarm-event recorded vide o from HD 1 and HD 2 to HD 3. S tay on the DISK SETTING page. Use the Up/Down buttons to highlight BACKUP ; select ALARM, then press the ENTER / SAVE ENTE R/SA VE button to proceed. SELECT : Duplicating a p articular recorded video from HD1 and HD 2 to HD3.
29 4.5.2 Archive Clips into Floppy Disk Please take the following step s to archive a critical image in a floppy disk. (1) Insert a 1.44 floppy disk into the floppy slot.
30 5. MAIN MENU There are 7 submenus to the MAIN MENU to guide you through the setup of the DVR. The following sections will instruct you step by step now to configure the operation setting and options. Press the SETUP button to access the MAIN MENU. Once inside the menu system, the on-screen menu allows you to set up the key features of the unit.
31 5.1 TIME/ TITLE This device is able to print inerasable system time and title information dire ctly onto images during recording. Thi s page allows use rs to set the time and desired title, and to decide if the function is to be activated. The entrie s are listed as follows.
32 5.2 RECORD TIMER The unit provides a weekly table, co nsisting of two periods of time each day for sche duled recording. This option allows you to set the time each day that the unit will star t and stop recording. REC ENABLE : The rec enable option is us ed to enable / disable the programm ed scheduled recording.
33 5.3 REC SETTING This page all ows you to set recording rate and recording quality , and to enable you to continue recording when the disk is full. REC RA TE: This option is used for adjusting the num ber of pictures recorded every se cond into a hard disk.
34 5.4 ALARM SETTING This menu allows users to program the config urat ion of alarm recording only when an alarm i nput is activated. The device will record as long as the alarm input is activated. ALM OPERA TION: The ALM OPERA TION option is used to determine whether to activate/deactivate the alarm recording when it detect s an alarm input.
35 ALM TYPE: The ALM TY PE option is used to set a type of alarm input corresponding to the sensor si gnal in use. NO: Normally Open. This is to be used with the type of alarm sensor , whose contact remains o pen in normal conditions and closes in case of activation.
36 5.5 COMMUNICA TION The COMMUNICA TION option is used to configur e status of the communi cation port when the connected with an external device. RS232: The RS232 option is used to determine the activation/ deactivation of the RS232 communication port for externally triggered recording.
37 5.6 DISK SETTING REFORMA T: The REFORMA T option is used to clear out all of the data in the hard disk drive. Y ou will be required to enter the pre-set password before pr oceeding with clearing out the data. Enter th e standard p assword “9999” if you don’t set your individual password.
38 5.7 SYSTEM The SYSTEM P AGE is used for accessi ng the hist ory of operation status, setting the p assword, resuming factory default, and dete r mining the menu display backgr ound. LOG : This log shows the history of the operation st atus in chronological order .
39 BUZZER : The BUZZER option is used to determine the embe dded buzzer sounding a tone to signal the following situations. A tone last s about two seconds long.

51 Changing The Record & Timer properties The network viewer allows you to chang e regular record , event record, and T imer settings of the KV -HD01 over the network. Changing Record Properties RA TE: Open the drop-down list to set a desired recording rate, which will change the current recording speed of the KV -HD01.

54 Viewing a still JPEG-image This is image integrity-protect sof tware. If an image isn’ t originally made by a KV -HD01, the Image Viewer will not display image and a message “ W rong file, Can’t open it ” will appear on the screen which will protect archived jpeg images from rep roduction and interpolation.
