24 IDENTIFYING INCLUDED COMPONENTS Surv eillix™ NVS systems come with a mouse, key board and selected s oftware and cables . Identify the followi ng components to mak e sure everything has been proper ly included wit h your new NVS unit. If a ny of the followin g items are miss ing, contact your de al er to arrange a replacement.
25 KEYBOARD SETUP To attach the keyb oard to the DVR unit, plug the end of the Keyboard in to the keyboar d PS/2 Port located on the back of the ma chine. The keyboard PS/2 Port c an be identified by the purple c olor. Refer to the Rear Panel Connectors diagra m for more informati on.
26 MONITOR SETUP There are 2 availa ble connections f or monitors which can be used indiv idually or in tandem. SVGA Output To VGA Monitor. DVI-D Output To TV / Digital Monitor Attach the monitor or mo nitors to the rear of t he NVR using the cabl e supplied by the monitor manufact urer.
27 HARD DRIVE ARRAY NOTE: The Alarm Light will turn on i f the Hard Drives re ach a temperature above safe operat ing conditions Swapping a Hard Drive 1. Press the hard drive power bu tton to turn off power to the hard drive yo u wish to remove. 2. Turn the but ton lock to the open posit ion and push the handle release button.

30 SETTING THE TIME AND DATE 1. Exit to Windows by clicking the Ex it button from the Display scr een and selecting Res tart in Windows Mode . (See the Display screen section later in this chapter) 2. Open Windows Explorer . Do this by right-c licking the My Computer Icon (located on the top left h and corner of the Desk top) and select Explore.
31 Importing DVR Settings 1. Exit to Windows by clicking the Exit button on t he Display sc reen and selec ting Restart in Windows Mode. (See t he Display screen section later in this chapter) 2. Click Start > Programs > Surveillix > VFormat.
32 DISPLAY SCREEN Each time the DVR starts, the program def aults to the Display sc reen. The following di agram outlines the b uttons and features used on the Display s creen. You sho uld become famil iar with these opti ons as this is th e screen that wi ll be display ed the majority of the time.
33 CAMERA VIEW Recording Status Indicator The camera statu s for each camera is dis played in the upper righ t corner on the Video Display Area. The following are the diff erent states for each c amera: Recording Displayed when the c amera is currently being recorded to th e DVR.
34 SCREEN DIVISION BUTTONS The Scre en Division men u allows you to v iew cameras in groups such as two by two, three by three and f our by four. The button options are shown below. 1st Four Cameras View – Displays cameras 1-4 in the Video Display Area.

36 SETUP OVERVIEW The Setup o ptions allow y ou to optimiz e your DVR by adjus ting things li ke camera names , reboot schedules , recording schedu les and more.
37 CAMERA SETUP Select Camera Selects the came ra to be edited. Selected Came ra Display Displays the live camera fee d from the camera selected. 39 Connecting with Camera Finder 1. From the Display screen, click Setup . 2. Click the Network Video tab. 3. Click the Add/Remove Device tab. 4. Click Find Cameras to automatically find all connec ted Network cameras. 5. Select the chec k box next to the d esired camera.

41 Upgrade and Registration Have the following information ava ilable before regis tering. Software Serial Number: T hat product Serial Number is the unique number that Tos hiba provided with the purchas e software. System ID: The System ID is a number t hat is generated by the Surveillix unit.
42 5. Verify the information. 6. Click Next if the information pr ovided is correc t. 7. Once validated, th e user will be prov ided with the Unloc k Code. 8. Print the page and save for later referenc e. Unlocking the Upgrade 1. Return to Setup > Network Cameras > License .
43 MOTION SETUP The DVR allows the user t o adjust several differ ent Motion Se ttings and cr eate motion detect ion areas. Create a Motion Area 1. Click Motion in Setup . 2. Select a camera from the Select Camera list. 3. Select the Detect Detail Motion Area check box.
44 Activating an Alarm on a Motion Event 1. In the Motion Setup window, selec t a camera to e dit from the Camera lis t. 2. Create a motion area. 3. Select the Alarm Output check box. 4. Select a Control Output to activate for the selected camera. 5. Select an Alarm Duration time when a motion ev ent occurs.
45 SCHEDULE SETUP Recording Schedule The Recording Sched ule window allows the user to cr eate different rec ording schedules based on the day, ti me, and type of reco rding desired.
46 Sensor Schedule The Sensors will s upersede all other types of recording mo des (Motion and Conti nuous). Regardless of the recording schedul e o f a particular camera, if a sensor ev ent occurs the associated c ameras will begin r ecording as a Sensor Event.
47 Create a Recording Schedule 1. Select a day to beg in creating th e schedule for -o r- click Single Day Selection , enabl ing Multi Day Selection , to create the same schedule for multiple days. 2. Highlight the Time-Blo cks within the Recording Schedule window for the camera(s ) selected to schedul e.
48 Special Day Schedule The user can create days that have a unique recor ding schedule. If nec essary create thes e on days that are ‘not ty pical’ such as Holidays, Special Events, etc. Creating/Editing a ‘Sp ecial Day’ Schedule 1. Click Normal Day Mode to enable the Special Day Mode .
49 System Restart Setup System Restart Setup allows the user to define a sche dule wherein the DVR automatically restarts according to s pecified para me ters. Create System Restart Schedule 1. Click Schedule on the S etup screen. 2. Click Restart Setup .
50 GENERAL SETUP Function Beep on Login Fail Enables the DVR to beep c ontinuously in response to a failed logi n attempt. Only an aut horized login will stop the beep ing. Sequence Setting Allows the video out picture to automatically cycle through channels at a set speed.
51 Connecting to a Wide Screen Display 1. Click Exit on the Display scr een and select E xit in Windows Mode . 2. Right-click th e Desktop and sele ct Properties . 3. Click the Settings tab. 4. Drag the Screen Resolution bar to the proper resoluti on of the connec ted display.
52 Auto Sequence Setting Auto Sequencing is available eith er in the Display s creen when Auto S equencing has been enabled or when a Spot-Mo nitor out s ig nal is used to disp lay on a spot monitor. Auto Seq uencing conven iently display s video chann els at specifie d intervals and s equences through each se lected channe l.
53 NETWORK SETUP Network Setup allows the user to adjust settings such as Ports, set up emergency PPP information for use with the Emergency Age nt and enable Remot e Access. Transport Rate A bandwidth throttl e based on percentage of free network . Web Viewer (iDVR) Enables/Disables access to the DVR using the Web Vi ewer interface.
54 INFORMATION The Infor mation display all ows users to define th e site code neces sary for connecting to r emote software, sa ve comments relat i ve to the DVR and store tec h support and c ontact number informat ion. Site Code A user-specified unique ident ification name used by other DVR software to identify th e DVR.
55 ADMINISTRATIVE SETUP Disk Management The Disk Management window is a native Windows function. This window displays the partition s cheme and health s tatus of the Ha rd Disk Drives in the DVR. This window is often used to troubleshoot a DVR, or verify the amo unt of Hard Drive storage inst alled.
56 Setting Up DDNS Dynamic Domain Name System (D DNS) is a service that provides a static address to simplify remote con nection to the DVR. This service is most u seful for install ations where the WA N (public) IP address is dynamic (changes from time to time).
57 User Management The User Ma nagement Console a llows the admi nistrator to crea te, edit, and del ete user accounts . Each user ac count can be assigned differen t privileges to limit t he usage of the DVR system.
58 User Rank The User Rankin g structure allo ws the option to assig n a privilege system (1-10 where one ha s the most rights) to u sers of the DVR Software. For examp le. Since onl y one user is al lowed to use th e PTZ controls at any one ti me, an adminis trator with a hi gher rank can kick another u ser out and take c ontrol of the PTZ.
59 Status Check / Email General 1. Click Setup on the Display screen. 2. Click Administrative . 3. Click Status Check/Email . 4. Select the Enable Email Alarm chec k box. 5. Enter a From Name and e-mail Ad dress . Note This name and address will appear in the From line of the email alert message.
60 Storage Check 1. Set up the General and Users tabs first. (see above) 2. Select the Use Sto rage Check chec k box. 3. Define the number of minutes. 4. Select an Alert Option, Be ep or Popup Messag e, if desired. 5. Click Apply. Recording Data Check 1.
61 SMART Information The SMART Information tab display s Hard Drive informati on. SMART Alert 1. Setup the General and Users ta bs first. (see above) 2. Select the Enable SMART Alarm. 3. Define the number hours between SMART checks. 4. Select the type o f SMART event to tr igger an action.
62 INSTANT RECORDING The Instant Recording fe ature allows users to manuall y initiate recordi ng on a specific c amera, overridi ng the current sched ul e.

64 SEARCH OVERVIEW The DVR has several options that allow th e user to easily s earch through, and find, a particular section of video. From Mo tion /Sensor indexing to calend ar views highlighting days with recorded video; the DVR is equippe d to help the user quick ly find a specific video or event.
65 Adjust the Brightness of an Image 1. Select an image t o adjust by d ouble-click ing on the desired image. Multipl e images canno t be adjusted at one time. 2. Move the Brightness slide bar to the right or left to adjust the bri ghtness. 3. Reset the Brightness by moving the s lider back to the center of the bar.
66 PERFORMING A BASIC SEARCH There are several different ty pes of searc hes that can be perfor med on the DVR. The mos t basic involves selecting the date, t i me, camera, and clic king play. 1. Click the Calendar button to selec t a date. 2. Select a time by clicking the up a nd down arrows to th e right of the time display.
67 SAVE TO JPG OR AVI The DVR can export s ingle images i n a JPG Image fil e format and save video clips in a n AVI format. Both JPG and AVI file form ats are the most co mmonly used gra phical formats today. Virtually every computer o ffers some ty pe of support for these file f ormat s which make them the most ideal f ormats to use.
68 Bookmarks Use book marks to mark a vi deo clip during a search. Export book marked data using the Clip Backup fe ature. 1. Perform a s earch for the desired v ideo. 2. Stop play back at the b eginning of th e desired clip. 3. Right-clic k the video and s elect Start Bookmar k .
69 Single Clip Backup Along with the Sa ve option, a single c amera backup option is als o included with the Surv eillix software. The singl e Camera or Clip Backup allows t he user to back up a single c amera without hAVIng to backup m ultiple cameras at a given ti me.
70 INDEX SEARCH Us ing the Index Searc h can greatly decreas e the amount of time spent searc hing through s aved video. The Index Search allows a user to perform a search based on c riteria such as Sen sor, Motion and I nstant Record even ts Performing an Index Search 1.
71 PREVIEW SEARCH Preview Search can be used in a nu mber of circumstances to quickly find an exact mome nt where an event, such as a theft, occur red. The Preview Searc h gives a 24 Hour visual ov erview of a single camer a by separating a 24 hour period (1 day ) into 24 images, on e image for each h our of the day.
72 Performing a Preview Search 1. Select a single ca mera by either turning off all c ameras but one or double-click ing a displayed im age. 2. Click Preview Search . 24 images dis play. If there is n o recorded video during a portion of the day, “ No Image” will be d isplayed where the image s hould be.
73 OBJECT SEARCH Object Searc h is a powerful search utility that is used to s earch a region on the video f or any motion changes . Results are n eatly displayed and c an be view ed quickly. Performing an Object Search 1. Perform a Basic Search. S ee the instruc tions on Performing a Basic Search.
74 MOTION SEARCH The Motio n Search provides a dynamic display of t he levels of motion i n recorded video. A djust the level of moti on to only pl ay clips of video at or ab ove that level.
75 SEARCH IN LIVE The Search in Live featur e allows users to rev iew events imme diately while monit oring live v ideo. Pause, rewind, and resume l ive video within secon ds of an alarm event or s uspicious ac tivity. 1. Move the mous e cursor over t he desired liv e video display on the Live Dis play screen.

78 BACKUP OVERVIEW The Backup Center al lows you to bac k up recorded vide o data from mu ltiple dates and times to one or more locations i ncluding t he DVD-RW drive, Network Storage Loc ations, and Exter nal Hard Drives. The DVR can easily backup importa nt video data to an internal or external m edia location.
79 General Screen Overview The General Backup Screen is used for perf orming bulk backup of vid eo recorded by all cameras f or a selected period, or p eriod s, to a specified stor age locatio n. 81 Scheduled Screen Overview The Scheduled B ackup Screen is u sed for perform ing bulk back up of video rec orded by all cam eras for a selec ted period, on a re g ular scheduled basis (1-24 hours). The Scheduled Backup Sc reen is similar to the General Bac kup Screen.

90 EMERGENCY AGENT OVERVIEW The E mergency Agent software is a utility tha t streams video ac ro ss a Local Area Network to a Client PC when an alarm is detec ted on the DVR. The vide o that streams across can be sto pped, played forw ards and backw ards, in slow motion or real speed.
91 Setup Window Network Port Indicates the po rt which the Emergency Agent uses to lis ten for incoming events. This number shou ld be change d to the same number as is set in the Emer gency Port in Network Settings on t he DVR. Save Directory Sets the locati on that re corded vide o footage is saved to.
92 Add Items to Alarm Confirm List 1. From the Option menu, cl ick Setup . 2. Type the desired tex t in the box bel ow the Alarm Confirmation List. NOTE: The items in the Alarm Confirmation List will be availa ble on a lis t under Status Setting in main Emergency Agent sc reen.
93 SEARCH ALARM WINDOW Export Quality It may be necessary to reduc e the overall size of an AVI file; f or example, to email to s omeone. AVI file sizes can be reduce d by reducing the image q uality. However, r educing the image quality causes the AVI vi deo to appear mor e pixilated.
94 REMOTE SOFTWARE OVERVIEW The DVR was specifically designed to be fully operated and mainta ined remotely. It c onnects using the st andard TCP/IP protocol thorough connecti on types such as DSL, Cabl e Mode, T1, ISDN, 56K Modem, LAN, and more.
95 Remote Software Setup Installing Remote Software 1. On the client computer , insert the Surv eillix Software CD into t he CD-ROM. The CD sho uld play automatic ally. 2. When prompted, s elect the Install Remote Software o ption. Follow the i nstallation instruc tions carefully.
96 Configuring the DVR In order to access the DVR remotely, the DVR S erver must be setu p to allow remote con nections. Time Out Value Specifies a value (in seco nds) to wait for a signal from the Surveillix Remote Client. I f a signal is not received by that time, the conn ection is dropped.
97 DIGITAL VERIFIER OVERVIEW JPG images and AVI video files th at are exported from the Digita l Video Recorder are automatically embedded with a digital sig nature. Digital Signatures are a way to verify the authenticity of the images to ensure that th ey have not been tamp ered with or edited in any way.
98 BACKUP VIEWER OVERVIEW The Backup Viewer allows y ou to play bac k the exported vide o in its proprietary format. Video s aved in this for mat is extreme ly difficult to tamp er with and therefor e is the ide al solution when l aw enforcement and th e legal department are involved.
99 SCS OVERVIEW SCS software is Network DVR Manag ement Software; a pow erful utilit y that allows 100 or more DVRs to be control led using on e computer.
