1 This guide explains how to install the DuoConnect Host Bus Adapter in a PCI slot and how to in stall its associated drivers. It also describes how to connect a USB device and a di gital video camera. Overview The DuoConnect adapter enables you to connect USB 1.

T ype the drive letter for your CD-ROM dr ive in the Cop y manuf acturer’ s files from box, as shown below , and click OK .

8 Installing the Windows Drivers 10 T o verify that the driver is installed, right-cl ick the My Computer desktop icon, select Pro perties , click the Hardware tab, then click the Device Manager button. Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers and verify that the information shown below appears .

10 Installing the Windows Drivers 4 In the Install Hardwar e Device Drivers window , select Search for a suitab le driver for my device (Recommended) , and clic k Next . 5 In the Locate Driver Files window , uncheck all opt ions except CD-ROM dri ves , and click Next .

12 Installing the Windows Drivers 9 T o verify that the driver is installed, right-click the My Computer desktop icon, select Properties , click the Hardware tab, and click the Devi ce Manager button. Then, e xpand IEEE 1394 B us host controllers and Universal Seri al Bus Controllers .
13 Installing the Windows Drivers Windows Me 1 T urn on or r estar t your computer and inse rt the DuoConnect CD. 2 When the Add New Har dware W izard appea rs, select Automatic search for a better driver (Recommended) and click Next . 3 After the driver is copied, click Finish .
14 Installing the Windows Drivers 6 If you see a message that the PCI Universal Serial Bus driver was not located, select Automatic search for a better driver (Recommende d) . Then, insert the DuoConnect CD and click Next . 7 When W indows has finished copying the USB 2.
15 Installing the Windows Drivers 9 T o verify that the driver is installe d, right- click the My Comput er desktop icon, select Properties , and click the Device Manager tab. Expand 1394 Bus Controller and Universal Serial Bus Controllers . V erify that the information shown below appears.
16 Installing the Windows Drivers Windows 98 SE 1 T urn on or r estar t your computer and inse rt the DuoConnect CD. 2 When the Add New Har dware W izard opens, click Next . 3 Select Search for the best driver for your device (Recommende d) , and click Next.

19 Installing the Windows Drivers 10 Select The updated driver (Recommended) , and click Next . 11 Y ou may see a message that W i ndows is searching for the driver . Click Next. 12 When you see the following pr ompt, insert your W indows 98 SE CD and click OK .
20 Installing the Windows Drivers Note: If you have copied the dr iver files onto y our har d drive and know wher e they ar e located, you can brows e to that folder instead of inserting the W i ndows 98 SE CD. 14 When the thir d driver has been copied onto your system, the following wi ndow appears.

22 Installing the Windows Drivers 19 If the following screen appears, select The updated driver (Recommende d) , and click Next . Otherwise, pr oceed to Step 21 . 20 W indows shows you the location of the driver . Click Next . 21 When W indows is finished copying fi les, click Finish .

26 Installing the Windows Drivers 30 T o verify that the drivers are installed, right-click the My Computer desktop icon, select Properties , and click the Device Manage r tab. Then, expand IEEE 1394 Bus Controller and Universal Serial Bus Controllers .

When you use the DuoConnect installer as described on page 27 , the DisableSleep driver (shown at right) is installe d and the Deep Sleep featur e is dis abled.
30 Connecting USB Devices Connecting USB Devices Y ou can connect standar d USB 1.1 or high-spe ed USB 2. 0 devices to the connectors of the DuoConnect adapter , as shown below . Hotplugging The DuoConnect adapter support s hot-plugging, allowing USB devices to be attached and recogn ized while the computer is on.
31 Connecting USB Devices Connecting a Digital Video Camera T wo types of Fir eW ir e connectors ar e commonly used: a 4-pin and a 6-pin. The DuoConnect adapter contains two external 6-pin connectors suitable for use with a camera. Digital video cameras use a 4-pin connector and may not include a cable.
