2 2 Load plai n Lett er/ A4 pap er a Pull the pape r tray a com p le te ly ou t o f the machine. b Open the paper tray cover a . c With both hands, gently press and slide the paper side guides a and t hen the pape r length guide b to f it the paper size.
3 g Close the paper t ray cover. Check that th e paper is flat in the tr a y and below the maximum paper mark a . h Sl ow ly push the pap er tray com pletely into the machine. i While holding the paper tray in place, pull out the paper support a until it clicks, and t hen unfold the pap er suppo rt flap b .
4 3 Connect the po w er co rd an d te leph on e line a Connect the power cord. b Connect th e telephone li ne cord. Conne ct one end of the tele phone line cord to the jack o n the machine m arked LIN E a nd the ot her end t o a mod ula r wa ll jack .

6 h Gently push the ink cartridge until it clicks. After all the ink car tri dge s are in st all ed clos e th e ink cartridg e cover . Note The ma chine will prepare t he ink tube system for print ing . Th is pro ces s will take ap pr oxim atel y four minutes.
7 5 Check the pri nt qual ity a When the preparation proces s has finished, the LCD shows this messa ge Set Paper and Press Start Pre ss Color Start . b Check the quality of the f our color blocks a on the sheet. (black/yellow/cyan/mag enta) c If all lines are clear an d visi ble, press 1 ( Yes ) on the dial pa d to finish t he quality c heck.
8 7 Choose the corr ect Recei ve Mode The correc t Receive Mo de is dete rmined by t he external devices a nd teleph one subscr iber service s (Voice M ail, Distinctive Ring, etc.) you have (or wi ll be using) on the same l ine as the Brother machine.
9 8 Set t he LCD contrast (If needed) If you are having di fficulty reading the L CD from your pos ition, try changing the contrast setting. a Pre ss Men u . b Pre ss 1 . c Pre ss 7 . d Pre ss a or b to choose Light or Dark . Select ab & OK Light LCD Contrast Dark e Pre ss OK .
10 10 Set your stat ion ID You should store you r name and fax number to be printe d on all fax pages that you s end . a Pre ss Men u . b Pre ss 0 . c Pre ss 3 . d Enter your f ax n umber (up to 20 dig its) on the dial pad, and then press OK . e Enter your na me (up to 20 characte rs) using the dial p ad, and then press OK .
