16 Preparations This chapter des cribes basic operat ions, such as naviga ting the menus, and first time settings to help you lear n more about your camcord er . Ch argin g th e Ba tte ry Pa ck The camc order can be p owere d with a battery pack or direct ly usin g the compact power ad apter .

19 Y ou can also attach the wrist strap to the strap mount on the grip belt to use both for extra convenience and pro tection. Pass the ends of the should er strap thr ough the strap m ount o n the grip belt and adjust the length of the stra p.

T o set the screen to dim, tur n on [LCD DIMMER] ( s 81). T o toggle be tween normal and bright or to turn off [LCD DIMMER], perform the following pr ocedure.
21 Opera ting Mo des The camc order ’ s operating mode i s determined by the button and the po sition of the camera mode dial. In this manual, indicate s that a function is available in the operat ing mode shown and indicates that the function is not a vailable.
Preparations 22 settings t o your pr eference. Even in flex ible re cording mo de, the camcor der can help you with the settings. For example, you can use th e Special Scene r ecor ding programs ( 40) to set at once all the optimal settings to matc h spec ial recordi ng con ditions .
23 During pla yback mode, select ( ) a “row” of functions and press to operate the func tion in th e middle or push the joysti ck ( ) to operate the function on the left or right side of the row , respectiv ely . In eith er mode, if you wait a few seconds, the joystick guide will minimize again but the sel ected function can s till be operated.

27 Memory Cards Compatible for Use with the Camcorder Y ou can use commer cially available SDHC (SD hig h capacity) memory cards an d SD m emory cards wit h this camc order to recor d movi es and photos. However , depending on the memory card, y ou may not be able t o record m ovies on it .
